The hotel changed the name, now it calls "Hem Hotel", that's why it took me long time to find. Room is very good, 2 beds and has its own bathroom.
Don't mix girl with boy in a room! It's 2 beds room! Can't compare with 20 beds dormitory!

The rooms are functional and almost everything was mantained to a satisfactory standard. The price was far cheaper than anything else within a several mile radius. I enjoyed a surprisingly quiet night's sleep considering how close it is to a main motorway, which you can only hear from the outside.
I had requested to book both beds in a room so that I could have it to myself, and contacted the hotel to try and get the booking confirmed, offering payment for both beds in the room if needed. They didn't reply, and upon arrival I was told that it wasn't possible because the hotel was full and that I'd have to share (luckily the man I shared with was fine, we got along quite well, but it was the principle of the poor service that annoyed me). Interestingly, the allocation of rooms seems fairly random, with males and females sharing, which I imagine could be un-nerving for some female travellers. The window pane in the room was cracked and apparently had been that way for a number of weeks according to my room-mate, who was staying long term. The hotel had done nothing to fix it, meaning that mosquitoes were getting into the room. Though most of the room was clean, the carpet was dirty, and didn't appear to have seen a vacuum cleaner for a fair while. All in all, you get what you pay for.

the price
the room seemed like nobody entered it since 10 years ago, it smelled bad, the cupboard smelled bad (and the smell went into my clothes), the bathroom floor was dirty and sticky. Also the hotel has actually a different name it reads HEM Hotel from the outside and looks like a nice hotel but actually it hosts the Budget Hostel Bargain Toko in it's back yard.

The price. For that price I felt like a king. Another good thing is that each room has it's own bathroom. For the price of 45 euros per week I expected one bathroom per floor with no hot water. We had no problems with water :)

Very cheap. Easy to get to center by tram 2 or by bus at night. Close location of cheap supermarkets where I could buy 0,33ml beer for just ,31 eur and 0,25ml wine for 1 eur. In the center prices are much more expensive!
Very old, bad smell, especially on the 2nd floor. Couldn't get a room for both of us. Broken toilet flush.

The best relation between quality and price, despite of farness from down town and unposibility to book and to pay for room on reception. Good trip to Amsterdam!

It is a small and cheap hostel, rooms are clean, even though there was a mistake when we arrived, so we had to wait a bit while our room was being cleaned. The main advantage is that you can get all facilities of the large hotel - Hem - located just in the same yard, such as restaurant, coffee, lockers room, maps and help of the reception desk. And the atmosphere is very lively and cheerful.
it was really cold in our room (mid-October). And Slotervaart is quite distant from the city center, 20-25 minutes by u-train.

Don't expect too much. It's a hostel and that's it. The rooms are clean, however there are some difficulties in the arrengement ofcertain thing: beds are really unconfortable, shower leaks a lot and it spoilwater all over the toilet room. The localitation is far from teh centre of Amsterdam which is an advantage and a disavantage.
The shower leaks too much and it spoils water all over the floor. The beds are uncomfortable.
